ABOUT BAMM

Who and What does BAMM do in our community?

Who and What is BAMM?

In 2017 a group of Colonial Beach citizens dedicated to enriching the lives of students in the Colonial Beach Schools through Arts, Music and Mentoring, formed a support organization called BAMM, short for Beach, Arts, Music, and Mentoring. For years, BAMM has been organized under the umbrella of the Colonial Beach Community Foundation.  In 2023 BAMM became its own 501c3 charitable organization, proudly serving kids, families, and educators in Colonial Beach. BAMM has done so much to support local kids. There are activities for families at nearly every local event all staffed by BAMM volunteers.

BAMM holds one to two fundraisers every year to support their activities such as covering fees for youth sports and helping to pay for summer camps.  BAMM co-sponsors the annual Christmas party with CB Kids and provides financial and volunteer help for all kinds of local celebrations from Egg Hunts to Senior Prom. BAMM is the community partner for the Community Learning Center (CLC) after school program  providing volunteers, snacks, and supplies to help with enrichment activities. BAMM has also helped with after school drama and music programs.

During school closure due to the pandemic, volunteers helped make and deliver full meals to families daily.  They also created and delivered over 350 school project bags, and provided Zoom activities for kids at home.

Each year BAMM awards thousands of dollars in grants to Art, STEM, Music, and Drama teachers to help with student programs not otherwise funded.  The organization also partners with PTA to sponsor teacher appreciation events often showing up with a special breakfast or lunch spread to make sure teachers know their community cares.  BAMM has so far awarded over $20,000 in scholarships to graduating seniors and college students in need of assistance.

BAMM does this and so much more. Everyone participating with BAMM is a volunteer from visual artists, tennis instructors, after school mentors, even the musicians who play at the BAMMJAMM.  Everyone volunteers their time and talent so that funds raised go directly to support local kids.

What We Do...

  • BAMM offered youth activities at Riverfest, Westmoreland Health Fair, Earth Day, Potomac River Festival, Beach Music Festival, and Osprey Festival.

  • Each year BAMM sponsors any CB youth with fees to register for Little League.

  • BAMM pays entrance and registration fees for other CB youth sports and arts programs.

  • BAMM co-Sponsors with CB Kids the annual youth Christmas party serving nearly 200 local disadvantaged children and their families.

  • Due to Covid cancellation of many annual Easter Egg Hunts, together with the PTA, BAMM volunteers set up individual egg hunts at over 50 houses on Easter eve.

  • BAMM is the community partner of the 21st Century CLC After School program and recruits community volunteers to provide students with enrichment learning activities outside the normal curriculum including yoga, seasonal art projects, paper airplane construction, cooking, sports clinics, making cards for deployed military, celebrating and learning about black history, and so much more.

  • Due to lack of any music programs in the high school before Covid, BAMM started an after-school music club, teaching the kids music theory and song writing in addition to basic music skills and instrument practice.

  • BAMM volunteers assisted the school in delivery of meals during the pandemic to students and their families.

  • BAMM volunteers filled over 350 bags with educational and fun activities which were distributed to families along with school meals during periods of online school.

  • BAMM donates a hundred school supply-filled backpacks to the CB Kids program every year.

  • BAMM has given thousands of dollars in grants to each of the Art, Stem, Music, and Drama teachers to assist them in offering to students programs that are not otherwise school funded.

  • During “Back to School” events, BAMM pays PTA dues for any parent wishing to join and be more involved in their child’s educational experience.
